DK Dyson talks about her relationship with yoga and what you can expect during her yoga classes every Monday from 6:30-7:40 pm. If you haven’t tried DK’s class yet, you’re in for a treat! She’s humorous, kind, supportive, knowledgeable and very creative. 

What does Yoga mean to you?

Yoga is absolute LIFE to me, I incorporate Yoga into every aspect of my life!! Upon awaking, prayers, meditations to Creator & gratitude for awaking to another miracle filled day!! 

Why do you like to teach yoga?

I love, not like, to teach yoga because I get to share the total Life unfolding & truth revelations that yoga holds for every student!! It’s a life-long journey, so you have time to work on all aspects of your “beingness” and when it’s time to bring a Yoga pose into fuller existence, it happens. When it’s time to drop a pose for health’s sake, that gets revealed too, so I love to offer & watch the process involved as a teacher of Yoga.️

How is your class at Studio 108 structured?

My class at Studio 108 is very loose based upon my students needs AND simultaneously I have structure!!  Dichotomous, yes?? Always, at the very top of my class, I offer easeful poses aimed at helping one release a stress filled day. Then we move into warming up gently & then meditation. I always offer aromatherapy to those that want it, and those that don’t, that’s really welcomed too! After that, I’m seeing & listening to the students’ bodies. I can tell if a sweat-filled class needs a full challenge or a slower paced class. I make a promise every second to be present to my students, each & every one.

What should folks expect from your class?

Expect intensity of going within your Spirit, listening to your weaknesses & embracing them. Then, overtime, walking past them. Expect introspection of your muscular-skeletal system. Expect fun, expect to laugh unexpectedly because I’m a playful teacher. Expect to cry with gratitude or release at times. Then drop all expectations & just BE.

Tell us a little about your relationship with aromatherapy?

I am a certified aromatherapist and aroma is an important function of my day-to-day existence. I smell lies as well as truth. Fear & love both have scents. Aroma helps to protect as well as to induce remembrances & a host of other benefits! There are a million and 5 ways aroma can grow one up as a human. Come explore your relationship to essential oils or opt out!!

Why do aromatherapy and Yoga go so well together?

Oils can stimulate, relax, build, break down, protect… they can make miracles in a yoga practice! But, like I said, if you don’t want anything to do with oils, that’s perfectly fine. You can totally opt out and I respect that. 

Yoga & Aromatherapy can be sisters! You can’t breathe during meditation or have stopped up sinuses & really want to take a class? Well, maybe eucalyptus can unplug the mechanics of your lungs, to aid you, so you can accomplish the wonderful & important act of simply breathing deeply! 

Why would you recommend Yoga?

I’d recommend yoga for every condition known to humankind!!! Pregnant? Practice yoga. Trying to get pregnant? Yoga! No guarantees, but it’s fun trying yoga! Want to hear your purpose in life more clearly? Maybe yoga can help. Want to get more courageous? Become a love warrior? Want to have a body that you can hopefully live life in more easefully? Yoga may help with all these, plus some. Recovering from illness, preventing illness, teenagers, elderly, young adults… come get your yoga ON!! Yoga is for EVERYBODY!!

How has Yoga benefited you?

Yoga has benefited me by literally saving my life when life threatening challenges came gunning for me. I WILL NEVER EVER give up on yoga because yoga has never given up on me. It is the essential core of who I am as a Sacred Musician, a Medicine Woman, a wife, a Mother & a yoga teacher. Thank you, Yoga, I owe you EVERYTHING!!
